We are seeking an experienced Restful Ruby on Rails developer with demonstrable experience in building exciting and innovative applications. Ideally, you will also have a keen interest in social software, although that is not essential.
You will spend much of your time working closely with consultants, designers and other developers in our Social Media team. As such, in addition to very high technical standards, we also expect you to have good social and communication skills and be used to working well in a team environment.

Must have experience with:
- Modern Restful Rails development

- Version control with Subversion (and ideally with git or another distributed version control system)
- Systems administration, deploying Rails on a variety of Linux based environments with tools such as Capistrano
- Front end code, writing high quality, semantic HTML and unobtrusive Javascript (we like jQuery)
- Integration with Web Services such as SOAP is sometimes required for our enterprise customers

Salary: £25,000 to £40,000 dependent on ability and experience
Abilities and Experience
1. Excellent knowledge and experience of architecting and implementing robust web applications using a variety of technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Flash/Flex and ActionScript on the client side and PHP, Java or Ruby on Rails on the server side
2. Experience of designing and implementing databases including excellent knowledge of SQL
3. Experience of developing W3C standards compliant web sites for a variety of target platforms that look like the designer intended
4. Excellent knowledge of and ability to apply software design patterns (e.g. MVC) and Object Oriented principles in your development work
5. Working knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator and Microsoft Office and ability to take a designers Photoshop or Illustrator file and implement it
6. Experience of configuring and managing Apache, MySQL and Linux operating systems. Knowledge of Tomcat, Mongrel and Rails would be advantageous
7. Ability to use version control software such as Subversion effectively
